Transformation on Central Park West

“HELP!!!!” Is exactly what our clients asked for when they asked us to renovate their NYC apartment. They had lived in the apartment for 20 years and it no longer reflected their tastes or lifestyle. It felt dark and dreary and the furniture looked worn and frumpy. First impressions are everything, so we started by installing a chic marble floor in the foyer which added depth and richness. It subtly contrasts with an Alpha Workshops metallic cream colored wallpaper that reflects light and brightens up the space. We recognized the beauty of our client’s original light fixture but had it re-plated in polished nickel to add sparkle and shine. The heavy cabinet was replaced with a custom Eric Appel bronze and lucite console which feels light and fresh.

In the client’s original living room (top image), the television-viewing area had been pushed to the end of the long room which made an awkward seating area. We created a new furniture plan that better utilized the space (bottom image). We replaced their television with one that hangs above the fireplace that is centered in the room. We chose to use a mirror television so that the television is concealed when it is in the off position. A new limestone mantel replaced the fussy original one. A pair of Jens Risom chairs by the windows take advantage of the Central Park views. We dropped the ceiling to the beam height in order to add new downlights which create much needed illumination. New base and crown moldings give the room more importance without feeling heavy.

Clean lined furnishings with a cool palette of greys and taupes modernizes the space. A custom game table and Dessin Fournir chairs create another seating area. Dramatic art complements the furnishings. A stunning pair of Pagani Studio sconces anchor the art that rests in between. This living room is an expression of our client’s vision: elegant and sophisticated, yet approachable. It’s our mission to design homes that feel true to our clients!
